Maintaining Access to School and Learning During Quarantine or Isolation

Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) is committed to ensuring all students receive quality instruction each day. This includes times when students are required to stay home following COVID-19 quarantine protocols, such as for a possible exposure, or COVID-19 isolation protocol for a positive diagnosis. Teachers and staff are charged with providing current and relevant instructional plans for students they can access virtually while out of school for these reasons. Teachers and staff will also be available to assist or answer questions at assigned times following the procedures outlined below.

Following confirmation of the duration of a student's absence for quarantine or isolation, the school administrator will inform Mr. Bankenstein (PPW and Continuity Case Manager) of the student's projected absence.  Mr. Bankenstein will contact the family of the student who will be absent for quarantine or isolation to review the following steps designed to help the student maintain access to schoolwork and instructional support during his/her absence:

  1. During the length of his/her absence the student shall regularly check his/her StudentVUE gradebook to retrieve assigned work for all classes.  When assignments are issued teachers will post all instructions, due dates, details for work submission, and provide access to all links or documents needed to complete the assignment.  If the student left any items at school that may be needed to complete work while on quaratine (computer, textbooks, etc.) Mr. Bankenstein will assist with retrieving these items and arranging a time for a parent/guardian to pick them up from the school.

  2. Using Synergy mail, the student will regularly correspond with his/her teachers to ask questions or obtain assistance with assignments during his/her absence.

  3. The schedule below  outlines times each day when a content-area teacher is available to provide live assistance via Zoom.  Students will receive an email each day during their quarantine to determine if they would like to schedule a Zoom meeting for assistance.  If a meeting is desired, the student should respond to the appropriate content-area teacher(s).  Upon receipt of the student's reply, the teacher will send a Zoom meeting link for the scheduled meeting time.  Students will access this meeting using Zoom from their StudentVUE account.
